Armenia’s Lake Sevan Tour
Lake Sevan is the largest water body in Armenia and one of the highest-altitude lakes in the world. If you take look at the World map, Armenian land looks like a head of a maiden looking to the West, and Lake Sevan appears to be her earring or hairpin. This is why Armenians call Sevan “the jewel of Armenia”.
What to see at Lake Sevan.
The lake’s current surface area is at 1360 km2, though it used to be much bigger before the Soviet Era. On its formerly island, now a peninsula, stands the beautiful monastery Sevanavank of the 9th c., next to which you can find the remains of a 4th c. church. It is the most famous cultural site around the lake, although the territory is also known for it prehistoric archeological sites.
On the other side of the peninsula stands Hayravank Monastery of the 9-12th c. Close to it there is also a village Noratus, where you will see a field of khachkars, Armenian carved memorials of stone.

Do you like swimming?
Lake Sevan is a fresh water lake but it does have a swimming season, though a short one. It usually lasts from July to September.
The lake attracts many visitors, including non-swimmers, and is a widely loved touristic spot. Lake Sevan changes its color depending on the weather, skies and even temperature, ranging from turquoise to lapis lazuli.
Also, here you can savor fresh fish from lake Sevan, such as endemic Sevan trout, whitefish and crayfish.
